{"id":108,"date":"2014-05-13T07:55:00","date_gmt":"2014-05-13T12:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogtest.cowebtech.ca\/?p=108"},"modified":"2019-10-02T14:44:01","modified_gmt":"2019-10-02T19:44:01","slug":"el-nido","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.cowell.ca\/?p=108","title":{"rendered":"El Nido"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am now pretty much at the northern most point you can travel by land in Palawan. &nbsp;From here, Coron is the only island further north, and it&#8217;s 6 hours by boat. &nbsp;You can also sail to Manila from here in about 40 hours.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>This is El Nido.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/-yNkiwYvM2jE\/U3HP8wWMY5I\/AAAAAAAAFgY\/q67Dx5-GUj8\/s1600\/blogger-image-1638908930.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/-yNkiwYvM2jE\/U3HP8wWMY5I\/AAAAAAAAFgY\/q67Dx5-GUj8\/s1600\/blogger-image-1638908930.jpg\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;\">It&#8217;s a fairly relaxed beach town and is for sure off the beaten track, although it is gaining in popularity.<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;\">It is 300km north of Puerto and took 6 hours by minivan. It was a very slow ride with a lot of time spent stopping to pick people up. &nbsp;Saying they, apparently I did better than some other people. &nbsp;I have heard stories of vans breaking down and people having to push!&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;\">In 300km my van managed to stop not once, but twice at a gas station. &nbsp;Basically the first time he didn&#8217;t have enough passengers money to fill the tank!&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;\">\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/-3yCejo1O-n0\/U3HP2wqBSQI\/AAAAAAAAFgQ\/r8vg2STtv1g\/s1600\/blogger-image-1733985882.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/-3yCejo1O-n0\/U3HP2wqBSQI\/AAAAAAAAFgQ\/r8vg2STtv1g\/s1600\/blogger-image-1733985882.jpg\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;\">There is an airport here, but only charter flights leave from it and they are fairly expensive, especially by Filipino standards. &nbsp;Most people take the bus. &nbsp;There is also limited power. &nbsp;It runs from 2pm to 6am. &nbsp;Well, it&#8217;s supposed to. &nbsp;It stopped around 4am this morning. &nbsp;At that point my lovely air conditioner was only good at looking pretty in the window.<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;\">Wired internet is very slow and almost non existent, however SMART 3G works very well, much better than many places in the Philippines. &nbsp;Just remember you can only charge your phone \/ laptop when there is power.<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;\">Most importantly, there is no ATM.
